This year three members of the Alpheus team celebrate 20 years as part of a nine-strong team managing one of our largest UK sites on behalf of a global pharmaceutical company where we process a complex effluent stream with a load equivalent to a medium-sized city.
Frank Wayman, Bill Mitchell and Eric Morris joined Alpheus at the start of our contract with the client in 2004. Since then this dedicated trio have contributed to the safe and compliant running of the plant and delivered significant improvements to the performance and sustainability of the plant. The Alpheus team’s significant contributions over the last two decades include:
There’s no doubt that our team's dedication has been instrumental in earning the client’s trust and ensuring our long-term management of the plant. As we celebrate this milestone, we’re spotlighting some of their achievements over the past 20 years.
Our resident scientist and “fountain of all knowledge,” Frank, is a cornerstone of our team. With his deep expertise in anaerobic digestion, process safety, and the Industrial Emissions Directive—having even contributed to shaping new European-wide environmental legislation—Frank is a key asset across the business.
His academic connections to teaching and research play a vital role in preparing the next generation of Alpheus engineers and technicians, ensuring they have the expertise to provide industry-leading service. Frank’s extensive knowledge, practical problem-solving approach, and engaging communication skills make him an invaluable member of both our site team and the broader Alpheus community.
Frank’s ability to simplify complex topics and build strong relationships with clients, regulators, and other stakeholders has been instrumental in retaining our contract at this pharmaceutical site and in Alpheus’s ongoing success.
With over 38 years of experience in operations and maintenance, Bill is the go-to expert for keeping our client’s site running smoothly and efficiently. His extensive knowledge spans from modern technologies to the site’s ageing (but still highly effective) assets, giving him a wealth of experience in addressing and solving a wide range of issues.
Bill’s deep understanding of the site’s history and operations allows him to tackle new challenges with insight and creativity. His solution-focused mindset and innovative approach are always aimed at improving processes and improving site performance. One of the things we admire most about Bill is his commitment to the safety and well-being of the local team, exemplified by his recent collaboration to develop a safe flaring solution during a planned power shutdown over the weekend, which meant the team didn’t have to rely on assumptions.
Bill’s dedication, creativity, and commitment over the past 20 years means he is a highly valued team member. He’s always working hard to keep the site running smoothly and ensure everyone’s safety.
With a background as an Electrician and over 40 years in the industry, Eric has tackled just about every challenge that comes his way. His deep knowledge of this complex plant’s history and its unique quirks makes him the go-to person for handling tricky and unusual issues or breakdowns.
Eric has a real talent for breaking down complex electrical problems and solutions in a way that everyone, no matter their experience level, can understand. His knack for clear communication makes learning and problem-solving a lot easier for his colleagues.
We also rely on Eric’s excellent communication skills for delivering crucial parts of the induction and training for new starters. He ensures they get a solid foundation of knowledge to build on. On a complex site like ours, Eric’s keen eye for safety and his ability to pinpoint potential risks and the effect it may have on other parts of the site or process make him an invaluable asset.
